Old School: China Glaze 100 Proof Pink

I hopped on Ebay to buy some HTF (hard to find) lacquers last month. I came away with three, and over the next few days I'll be sharing them all with you.

First up is:

China Glaze 100 Proof Pink

100 Proof Pink is a medium pink with glass fleck shimmer. I was a bit disappointed in it because I thought it would be more barbie pink... Or squishy - you know? Instead it is sort of blah. It is non-3Free so it has a thinner formula, but no strong smell and still needs three thin coats for full coverage.

So I could take or leave this China Glaze, how about you?

Girly Bits Bachelor's Button & Stamping

Girly Bits Bachelor's Button

Bachelor's Button is a beautifully muted, cornflower blue with a moderate linear holo effect. It applies like a dream and is opaque in two coats.

Girly Bits Bachelor's Button & MoYou London Tourist Collection 07

I used Konad White Special Polish to stamp with.

Pink Wednesday :as close to V-day as my nails got

I'm sure it's the same for every single gal out there. If you don't have a Valentine, your nails probably shouldn't look like they do either!

I've never had a great reception to my nail endeavors from the male species, but I had to get into the V-day mood a little so I sported pink nails most of last week and did some nail stamping once too...

Zoya Gei Gei with MoYou London stamping from Tourist Collection 07

I can't decide if I like or hate Zoya Gei Gei.  It's a little pearl/frosty/uneven with flecks of shimmer that puzzle me somewhat. And on the other hand it's a soft, pretty pink... I needed three coats to even it out and get appropriate coverage. I stamped it using my go to Konad Light Pink Special Polish
The plate is one of the XL image ones (which FYI are way too big for my nails) with some gorgeous french inspired designs.

Hare Polish Return To Nature

I can't get enough of nude polishes. They always convey an effortlessly chic attitude. They're even better with some shimmer or glitter too :)

 Hare Polish Return to Nature

Return to Nature is a beige/putty nude with a golden shimmer; silver, gold and white glitter. I applied two coats for mainly opaque coverage.

Hare Polish is available on Etsy and lots of e-tailers too.

Femme Fatale Wolfsbane

Howl...owl...owl...

Femme Fatale Wolfsbane

Wolfsbane is a navy jelly containing silver and red hexes as well as the odd silver moon!!! I applied one coar over Girly Bits Cu Blue. It's thick and gluggy thanks to all the glitter but some Seche Vite evened everything out nicely.

A England Her Rose Adagio

Since A England had to stop international shipping, I haven't bought any. But my fingers got a little itchy with the release of their Ballerina Collection. Most of the shades were cool toned but the one warm one looked like a winner so I ordered it from Femme Fatale.

A England Her Rose Adagio

Her Rose Adagio didn't meet by expectations because turns out she's pretty silvery too :( I would've loved this rose/peach toned holo to be warmer and more vibrant; I already have one fairly similar. But the formula was that buttery brilliant A England is known for and it's a good stamping polish too. I applied two thin coats for spot on coverage.

Where do you ladies get A England from?

Cirque Colors Arcane Fire

Woooweeeee! It is hot tonight, so my windows are open and a cricket sneaked in and is jumping around my room eeeeeeewwwwwwww!  I'm so not going to sleep now :p

Cirque Colors Arcane Fire

Arcane Fire is burgundy and choc-full of colour shifting shimmer flecks that are gold dominant, but also go green and blue. The formula is a tad thick, I applied two coats which gave plenty of coverage.

Here is a list of Cirque stockists.

Essie Madison Ave-Hue

I'm scratching the bottom of the 'Edited' folder here guys... Madison Ave-Hue has been sitting patiently for at least 6 months asking me repeatedly,"Why do you hate me mama?"
I actually do like you, but you just don't inspire me. Meh.

Essie Madison Ave-Hue

Madison Ave-Hue is a blue-toned pink with fine white flake shimmer. The formula is nice enough, I got away with two coats here, then I added some INM Out the Door because it dried a little dull and ever so slightly textured due to the flakes.

I thought it might have been the same base colour as Essie A Splash of Grenadine so I compared the bottles for you (and me!)

Essie A Splash of Grenadine v Madison Ave-Hue

A Splash of Grenadine is definitely more purple so you can easily own both - HOORAY!

COLOUR for a CAUSE - Ovarian Cancer Australia - February 2014

*Press Sample*

Paint your nails TEAL for FEBRUARY to show your SUPPORT for OVARIAN CANCER AUSTRALIA

"To help Aussies show their support, Chemmart® Pharmacies across Australia will be stocking a limited edition teal nail polish pack, ‘Colour for a Cause’, throughout Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month (February). Proceeds will go to OCA to assist in the delivery of its awareness, support, advocacy and research programs."

I was asked to do some nail art using the teal and white DB lacquer pack to help launch their social media campaign #colourforacause . These polish packs will be available from February 6 at your local Chemmart Pharmacy.

"Throughout February, selected Chemmart® Pharmacies will also offer in-store manicures where nail polish fiends can have their digits done in return for a gold coin donation, which will be passed directly onto OCA."

Designer Brands Quick Colour Polish Teal

Teal is a quick drying teal green - not quite as blue as the official OCA teal but close enough. It claims to dry in 30 seconds and though I didn't test this out, I noticed that it did dry quickly - so much so that I actually had a few issues using it for my nail art as it got thick and sticky if I didn't paint or dot fast enough once it was out of the bottle!
Two medium coats gives an opaque and shiny finish. You could get away with wearing this without top coat if you're in a hurry, it's that shiny. I does stain a bit though - mainly around the cuticle so remove the polish carefully or you'll have blueish looking fingers!!! I doubled up on base coat as a matter of course for green and blues and had no issues with staining of my nail plate.

The white is very thick but manageable and needs a second coat to even it out, I didn't get any swatches of it by itself because a plain white isn't that exciting but it was a quick dryer!

These two polishes are pretty versatile and I came up with lots of manis, so I challenge you to wear teal all month long!

Silver Rhinestones - OCA

Are your tips and/or toes sporting teal too?
I hope you all get behind Ovarian Cancer Awareness this month ladies - even if you sport a little teal ribbon on one nail - people will notice it and ask you what it's for!!

WOWZA! You all need to get Pink Sugar NOW!

Lilypad Lacquer Pink Sugar

Pink Sugar's an amazing hot, blue based pink with tons of colour shifting flakey shimmer and linear holo effect. The shimmer gives it a real blue/purple/fuchsia flash that is AMAZING!!! The formula is on the thicker side of things, but it goes on opaque in two thin coats.

Lilypad Lacquer is available from the following stockists:

Have an amazing Wednesday my polished pretties!

KB Shimmer Plum Tuckered Out & Every Nook And Cranberry

Last year I got quite a few of the KB Shimmer Holiday Collection. This year I limited myself to just two (mainly because all the others were out of stock!):

KB Shimmer Plum Tuckered Out

Plum Tuckered Out is a deep red based purple with duochrome shimmer flecks that shift from blue-purple-pink. I applied two medium coats for full coverage and 1 coat of INM Out the Door for a bit of gloss/,

KB Shimmer Every Nook and Cranberry

Every Nook and Cranberry is a pink leaning red, loaded with glass fleck shimmer, with a matte finish. It's gorgeous and covers nicely in two thin coats. It' ok with top coat but I prefer it matte, myself.

Contrary Polish River Market & Feels Like Home

Holy Moly, it's already February!
Did January fly by all of you too?

Contrary Polish Feels Like Home

Feels Like Home is part of the Valentines Day 2013 Collection, that I was lemming all year - now I have 4/6 and I think I'm done. Contrary Polish does beautiful things with SHIMMER!!! This one is a smokey purple taupe with a pinch of pink glitter and some shy gold shimmer

 Contrary Polish River Market

River Market is a deep, vibrant purple jelly with red, purple and fuchsia micro-glitter and a touch of gold shimmer. It can look almost black in low light but it is so stunning in the sun! River Market is from the No Place Like Home Fall 2013 Collection, I believe.

I got these from Femme Fatale but for a full list of stockists, read the sidebar here
