It's a really nice CULT mum, I promise

Good Monday Ladies,

A few months back, I placed my 1st ever Cult Nails order. I think I bought 5 - (Always Winning went straight to live in 'future giveaway land'), and I've managed to photograph a couple of them for you. Sorry about my hangnail and cuticles- couldn't find the nippers!

Iconic - natural light

Iconic - sunlight

Iconic - sunlight

Iconic is a pinky maroon strewn with gold shimmer and flakies! The flakes look like they might be gold because they shine kind of orangey most of the time. I really like this one, it's a grown up colour but with flakes for a bit of zing! Definitely love how the flakies look in a non-jelly base. I think this was 2 coats. The formula is ok, a bit thin for my liking - it pooled a little at the cuticles.

My Kind of Cool Aid - sunlight

My Kind of Cool Aid - sunlight

My Kind of Cool Aid is a greyed almost pastel lavender/mauve with pearl coloured shimmer. Very pretty. I used 3 coats, but I think if I was used to the thinner formula, I could have got it done in 2. I'm always a bit useless the first time I try a new brand/brush. Once I know what to expect, I develop a method of application!

Let Me Fly - sunlight

Let Me Fly - shade

Let Me Fly is such a stunner! It's a dusty blue/teal (sort of a cross between cerulean blue and teal) with fine glass fleck silver flakie shimmer. The formula was thin but really colour rich so it only needed 2 coats. It dries to a high gloss finish too - how awesome is that?!

I also got Cruisin' Nude, (which looks gorgeous too) but turns out, it's the worst ever beige for my colouring, I think it'll give me corpse hands. I haven't actually tried it yet - it may end up in a giveaway or as a present for someone with cooler colouring.

I'm super excited for more of Maria's polishes. My 2nd order (the Super Powers collection) is currently somewhere between Florida and Auckland; I hope it makes its way to my letter box this week!

You can purchase Cult Nails polish from their website here or from Overall Beauty.

A Time For Romance...

Happy Weekend Everyone,

The stormy weather just rolled in to town today, boo :(  I hope you are getting sunny skies etc.

Today I have one of my first Essence Colour & Go polishes - Time For Romance

Time For Romance - natural light

Time For Romance - lamp
TFR is a sheer muted rose pink tinted jelly containing rose coloured micro glitter & a little bit of holo micro glitter, as well as large hex glitter. I'm wearing 2 coats above and I actually quite liked the semi-sheer coverage. I think if my nails were longer though, I would go for 3 coats. This would also be nice for layering. The formula was pretty good. Thick but in a good way and I didn't have to place the hex glitter; it just spread around nicely on its own.

I think the polish is a wee bit romantical in a girly way! TFR is certainly a keeper :)

Are you a fan?

Milani One Coat Glitters

Hey ladies,

Today I've got 3 of the Milani One Coat Glitters for you.  Most of you have probably seen them before, but for those of you who haven't...

Gold Glitz - lamp

Gold Glitz - natural light

Gold Glitz is a mixture of gold and orange/copper micro glitter in a clear base. Beautiful.

Silver Dazzle - lamp

Silver Dazzle is a mixture of gunmetal grey and dark silver micro glitter in a clear base. My hand was really shaky when I took photos of SD and this is the only one that wasn't too blurry, so don't have a shade pic, sorry. I do love this, it feels like a really rock n roll glitter - well maybe for Adam Lambert.
Red Sparkle - sunlight

Red Sparkle - shade

Red Sparkle is a mixture of medium red and dark red (possibly black or maroon) micro glitter in a clear base. Under the sun, the lighter red glows like hot coals - awesome!!

These guys take 2 coats for full coverage like in my pics. I think that is pretty amazing for a glitter - especially when the base isn't tinted - so a pat on the back for Milani there. They dry pretty gritty so I used 2 coats of Seche Vite. Remember to wrap your tips or they'll look like mine in the Red Sparkle pics!!

Good Friday night everyone - don't forget to enter the giveaway (link on sidebar) - one more week til I draw the winner!

DISQUS removed & Giveaway Reminder

Hey guys,

I tried out the DISQUS comment system over the last few days because I really wanted the ability to reply to individual comments. I does take longer to leave comments though because they want all sorts of info off you! And the feedback about it wasn't too positive, so I've reverted back to the old system.

The giveaway is running for 1 more week so I urge you to enter now - link on top of the sidebar. There will be a bonus prize draw of 2 polishes yet to be determined. So next Sunday I'll use randomnumber.org to draw two winners yay! If the winner lives overseas, chances are the prize won't arrive until after xmas because our guaranteed xmas delivery date has lapsed :( But it could still brighten up your New Year!!!

I'll leave you with a non-pink (with Fingers in mind):

Dollish Polish - can't get enough!

Ahoy hoy polish pals,

That was a gosh darn awful greeting, I apologise. I usually do not like that apologise is a verb. When people on US tv say, "I apologise," I feel like yelling (and sometimes do) "just say you're sorry, idiot!"
So moving right along...

I have the last (sigh, tear) of my Dollish Polish frankens to show you today. Ah, I just remembered I have 3 more that I got crappy pics of so I'll have them to show you at some point hooray!!

Colour Correction to show the blue more accurately

It Wasn't Over, It's Still Not Over - I'll admit, this one sucked me in purely because of the name! How good was The Notebook?!! That scene creates intense emotions no matter how many times I've seen it. Dolly based IWOISNO on the blue dress Ally's wearing in this scene - soaked through, on the jetty, in Noah's arms - Ryan Gosling was never finer... This is a medium blue shimmer with small rough silver glitter. The roughness of the glitter is kind of a head scratcher up close because it's rather bumpy, but once you see it from a short distance it looks awesome. Definitely use a thick top coat though.

Lamp - colour correction

My Little Buttercup is a sunshine yellow creme with silver holo micro glitter and a little bit of shimmer (I think). I really love this one. The micro glitter definitely elevates the polish and sets it out from all the other yellows out there. It applies really well too. I didn't have much of a streaking problem like most yellows, at 2 coats this was opaque and even.

Goonies Never Say Die is how I imagined China Glaze Champagne Bubbles ought to be. A light gold metallic strewn with small and relatively sparse gold glitter. The bumpiness of the gold makes it really look like little nuggets!! This is way way more flattering than the CG polish and a great colour for xmas. Perfect 2 coat application. I'm trying to think up some xmas themed nail art I can showcase GNSD in.

Drop, Your, Sword - who hasn't seen The Princess Bride?! This pale ice blue shimmer was inspired by Buttercup's wedding dress. It contains gold micro and hex glitter - the combination is In-Cred-I-Ble!!!!!! Just make sure you shake the bottle up before you apply though cos the hexs like to hang around the bottom of the bottle. This is another 2 coater.

Dolly has lots of awesome frankens for sale, but I think Drop, Your, Sword is one of the best. I don't have any pastel ice blue shimmers and I doubt there are any out there with as fabulous a formula as this! I love a wearable glitter too, especially if it involves large hex!!!

So don't be shy, if you like what you see (and I'm not sure why you wouldn't), head along to Dollish Polish on Etsy and get yourself some of these!!!!
