Color Club Winter Affair Swatches & Review

In keeping with the theme of releasing all holiday collections months before they are/should be relevant, Color Club has brought out its Christmas or "holiday" (for all the PCer's) collection in October.

After trying them all, luckily it's only my wallet complaining! I have BIG love for this collection. I bought 5/6 because Snow-Flakes is a Essie Shine of the Times dupe and I already have Nubar 2010. Are you ready for some gorgeous shimmers and a touch of holo glitter?

Berry and Bright is a pink toned red shimmer with orange-ish flakes and purple shimmer. It's so pretty in the sun. I love the added dimension of the flaked shimmer. The formula is tight too, I applied 2 coats but 1 generous coat is amazingly opaque - just like a foil! I can't wait to see how it does as a stamping polish.

Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly

Ho-Ho-Holly is a green with seriously heavy gold shimmer. The green is blue toned but the warm gold shimmer balances it out so it's pretty flattering. The formula is a lot thinner on this one, I used 3 thin coats. HHH reminds me of a cross between Zoya Apple and Ivanka, but more metallic.

Color Club Gift of Sparkle

Gift of Sparkle is a warm purple glitter. It has a base of purple and red micro glitter with fine silver holo glitter to add a bit of bling. It's got a fairly thick formula and 2 coats covers pretty well although, I did opt for 3 thin coats in these photos. It's a gritty SOB so I used 2 layers of Glitter Tamer.

Winter Affair  is a beautiful wine with duochrome-ish flake shimmer. The flakey shimmer sparkles either gold, orange or pink depending on the light. Application was great in 2 coats. I have a few polishes like this now and I just can't get enough! Comparison-wise, it's a bit sparklier and more pink than Nicole for OPI Shoot For The Maroon.

Color Club Glitter Wonderland

Glitter Wonderland (seriously? there isn't any glitter in it Color Club!) is a warm purple shimmer- the base is really pink and it shows through in the photos. I didn't manage to get any photos of GW alone in daylight, but they're colour accurate. There is pink and blue micro shimmer in this one that is really obvious and so pretty! The formula was slightly thin on this one too, so I used 3 thin coats for full coverage.

I tried my hand at a little glitter gradient sponging with My Nail Graffiti's Five Golden Rings over Glitter Wonderland.

I learned a valuable lesson, sponge in good light and from base to tip - I was holding the sponge the wrong way round so I couldn't see what I was doing, as I was doing it... If that makes sense? The result was some crazy unevenness but it looked cool all the same. God I love the mix of gold glitters in FGR!!

The Color Club Winter Affair Collection is available now online at Head2Toe Beauty for $3.10 per 15mL.

Kinda Halloween-y?

Hey everyone!

It's so weird writing a post once a week. Every time I think I have some time to sit down and blog, it feels very foreign!

Since I haven't done any Halloween type manis yet, here is the closest I have gotten, using a Dollish Polish Halloween release: We're Simply Meant To Be

I'm wearing a base of KB Shimmer Lilac Dreams - a microglitter/shimmer  pink/purple duochrome. Next I've got on 2 coats of  Dollish Polish  WSMTB - a clear base with purple, yellow, blue and wine glitters. I ended up sandwiching it with a coat of Verity Deep Violet - a dark purple jelly.

We're Simply Meant To Be  has fine light purple square glitter, micro blue and wine glitters, small blue hex and medium yellow/gold and wine hex glitters. Dolly always does a great job of mixing chunky and finer glitters together in a way that works great on the nail. Too many Indies just focus on the chunky glitters and end up looking un-co on the nail! I love the addition of the bright matte blue glitterts and the yellow/gold glitter seriously pops! Application is easy peasy, no placement required. Two coats gave very decent coverage as a top coat. Dry time was also great and the glitter is well suspended.

So not too Halloween-y, but pretty all the same, right?

WSMTB was limited edition but you can purchase other DPs HERE

I finish exams this Thursday, so I hope to be back to daily posts after that. Miss you all!

Wing Dust Collections - Save A Life

Super short post today guys.

Wing Dust Collections Save A Life

Save A Life is a milky sheer pastel purple with varying sizes of purple, silver, white and iridescent glitter. I layered it over Essie She's Picture Perfect because I didn't like my chances at getting in opaque, on its own. I applied 2 coats of SAL and the glitter is relatively sparse. It's pretty and delicate, but not exactly mind-blowing.

Funnily enough, I like it a lot more looking at these photos than I did at the time I swatched it!

Wing Dust polish is available on Etsy and Stephanie just released some gorgeous new colours that I have my eye on.

Pretty Serious - my favs from Hello World! & In The Night Collections

It has been a long week's absence! Been a studying for exams.
But I'm back briefly, for a pic heavy post with the polishes I picked up from Pretty Serious during their Hello World! sale.

Shipping from Oz was pretty speedy and I'm so happy with the polishes I ordered! They just released their third collection (Halloween themed) and I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

So without further ado, the first 3 are from Hello World!, the last 2, from Int The Night...

Pretty Serious Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit is a bright white with a subtle green/silver-grey tint and white shimmer. The shimmer is supposed to be multicoloured but it's pretty hard to see the other colours sparkling. I really loved wearing it, but this was the one formula I had issues with. It had that water-based paint feel to it, so it was watery, yet opaque and took 3 coats to hide the unevenness with which it applied, grrrr. It might just take some application practice...

Pretty Serious CGA

CGA is based on the magenta & cyan coloured graphics on early 90s computers (possibly just macs?). It's a pretty pink, lilac leaning base with cyan/turquoise shimmer. I wasn't sure if I'd love the finish in person, but I really do!!! The formula and application was great too. I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. In person the blue colour of the shimmer is more apparent, but my camera makes it look more white for some reason.

Pretty Serious Morning Java

Morning Java is a really unique golden brown polish. It's got a warm bronze brown base with gold and bronze flecks and gold glitter. Sadly I didn't get any photos in the sun, but it's pretty colour accurate. I used 2 fuss-free coats.

Pretty Serious Claris

Claris is a semi-sheer warm pink with oodles of gold fleck shimmer. It's just unbelievably beautiful!!! Back-up worthy even (and I rarely believe in backups!!!!)! The formula is fine and I used 3 medium coats for these pics. There's still a hint of VNL but it looks fine and you can always use a good ridge filler or wear undies if it bothers you. The gold shimmer is just OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty Serious Elliot
sun

Elliot is an awesome creamy blue with glass fleck shimmer. Sorry these photos aren't as good as the others. It has a fantastic formula, opaque in 2 coats. You'll love it!

If you haven't already bought from Pretty Serious, you need to get on it!!!

The Hungry Asian Belle

Hands up if you had a very LAZY Sunday!
Um, me...

I might have slept half the day. I promise I didn't mean to, but I got to bed so late and when I woke up in the morning I laid in bed too long and fell asleep again :)
That meant that I missed a great opportunity to swatch - all of Saturday was stormy, so today was sunny and gorgeous!

I'm meaning to get the Color Club A Winter Affair Holiday Collection photographed, but am taking my sweet time as usual! There's some nice colours in the collection including a concentrated Nubar 2010/Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure dupe. It's in stock at Head2Toe Beauty if you want a gander. Hopefully the fine weather will hold up and I can get some swatches in during my study breaks.

I've got another Hungry Asian for you tonight with a beautiful name - Belle. Beauty and the Beast was my favourite Disney Princess film as a kid so anything that reminds me of it is a must have!

Belle is a semi-sheer white base with small pink and medium brown hex glitter. I thought the colours were an interesting mix and I'm drawn to all white based glitter mixes, so Belle had to find a home in my collection. I applied 3 coats in these photos but the formula is a bit sticky and uneven so in the future I'll be layering it over a white creme. It took some time to dry too.

Problems aside, I still love it!

You can get Belle and other Hungry Asian lacquers from The Hungry Asian  for $9.25/15mL.

I've got some grab bags going for $20/6 polishes + shipping - for info click on the Blog SALE tab
