Pink Wednesday

 Greetings,

I thought I'd better get in a pink post before my Wednesday was over.

This is my newest pink, Zoya Lo from the Gossip collection AKA The Hills - though who the heck is Elodie?. Zoya describes it as a "bright, warm, medium pink creme with strong coral undertones. A unique summer pink that really flatters a tan". And I agree. It has a great formula, perfect in 2 coats, no streaking. Reminds me a lot of CG Sugar High. Look how shiny the finish is! No top coat needed (though you should always wear it as a matter of course).

That's it for today.I've got a sinus infection or something so I'm tired and grumpy.

Night,
xx Michaela

Maybelline mini Coloramas Swatches & Review

 Howdy,

I think I'm coming down with a cold :( I've had a sore throat & been super sleepy all day, so I'll try to keep this relatively short. I'll do my best to make it sweet as well.

You might remember that I picked these up when I was in Port Douglas. They are part of the Urban Wilds collection and don't seem to be available currently, in the US or NZ (I could only find them on the Australian Maybelline website). Each swatch is 2 coats.

Urban Orange

Indoors
Sunlight

This is the best orange I own! A nice medium orange - not bright - with pretty gold/yellow shimmer. The shimmer shows up best in the sun but is still evident in the shade. The formula was pretty good; sort of thin in consistency built up nicely in 2 coats. It looks alright next to my skin - it would help if I was rockin' a summer tan though...

 Urban Lemon

Indoors
Urban Lemon is a fantastic sunny side up yellow creme. It has pretty much killed my lemming for China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. As a bonus it doesn't make me look jaundiced! Boo-yah. It was a wee bit on the streaky side but what yellow isn't really? You just need to practice application technique/ use a self levelling top coat like SV. It looks pretty even in the photo & I wore it all on its lonesome. Doesn't it look glossy?!

Urban Turquoise

Indoors
I'm certainly a fan of Urban Turquoise. It's a turquoise blue creme. I was worried it was just like L.A. Girl Flare Tropical, but it is noticeably more yellow (tropical has a lot more blue in it) - just awesome. It dries super glossy like Urban Lemon & goes on nice and even and opaque in 2 coats- could have almost left it at one, it was so pigmented.

Maybelline did a really good job on the formulas & brushes in these minis. They are still 7.5mL, which IMO is plenty of nail polish for AUD$5.95, unless you routinely use up each bottle of polish - not me, too many to drain!!!

NZ has the Smoothies collection available, which also contains some pretty colours; a bit standard, but lovely in their own right - especially the purples.

Are you a fan of this line from Mayberline too? Hope no one else is sick!!

Til tomorrow,
xxx Michaela

Color Club Foiled Swatches & Review

Hey guys,

Yes, I caved and bought 3 more of the Color Club Foiled polishes. They are all just as amazing as Perfect Mol-TEN (I really don't get the name - what has TEN got to do with it? I thought the Mol had more meaning but whatevs. Maybe it's like CG's TEN Man instead of tin man?).

Hot Like Lava

Indoor lighting - no flash - macro

Haute/hot, no? Gorgeous bright pink metallic foil. Brighter than the pic shows. Quite a neutral pink, really. I thought it would be hella, hella cool, but in reality it looks fairly good on me - it would a LOT better with a mean tan though. I think this could sizzle in summer & brighten up winter for sure - like all good metallics. Perfect application - great in 1 coat. I'm wearing 2 above though - say it with me, "OCD"

Foil Me Once

Indoor - daytime

Indoor - flash

The second pink in the collection, Foil Me Once is a light pink that has purple leanings - sort of reminds me of the pinky purple in OPI It's My Year. This one is a lot more tame and traditional compared to Hot Like Lava. Same amazing 1 coat application - again I did an extra coat - they photograph better!

Lumin-icecent

Indoors - daytime

Macro close-up - shows true colour

one more pic for good measure

This is a cool ice blue foil. I definitely feeling it - Ice Ice Baby! That makes think about Vanilla Ice on skating on Stars On Ice, ahaha. Are you sick of me saying perfect formula, 1 coat, yet?

If you like a good metallic get into these blinding beauties now!
I got mine on eBay :)

Morrocan Nails... fail!

Oh Em Gee! Blogger is driving me loco roco! I need to become more computer savvy.

Every time I post something it seems to start a new page. I don't know why. It's really getting on my nerves, anyone know why it would do that? Anyway make sure you click on the list of posts in my sidebar or click on older posts to see the last few I've done.

I had a Moroccan themed 21st party to go to last night. My attempt at Moroccan nails did not go so well, so instead of showing you that... I hurriedly stamped my nails with a pattern from BM 201.
I'm not sure the Morrocan-ness is all that evident, but gold on red is good enough - if I hadn't been in a rush I would have remembered to do an accent nail in green, grrr

)

I just threw in this pic to show how intense Luxe is - if only it was a slightly more yellow gold

bit of a blurry close-up :p

I used 2 coats of OPI Big Apple Red (a fantastic medium blue toned red) as a base. BAR is my favourite red creme. I do have my eye on Zoya Sooki though... Then I used Orly Luxe to stamp on this swirly design. I was pleasantly surprised by the end result. But I found that when stamping with the Orly Foil FX polishes, you have to clean the plate in between each nail stamp or the foil shimmer hangs around & ruins the cleanness of the lines.

I took all of these photos after the party - no time to clean up my cuticles (and please excuse the gross state of the skin around my nails - I've been picking at it a lot lately :( - can suggest a better bad habit I can substitute?). I literally stamped my left hand in 1 minute (a super amazing record for me! I've discovered it's all about having your stamping tools set up in the current order; assembly line style! Swipe, stamp, wipe & repeat!), speedily slapped on some Seche Vite and leapt into the car. We were about an hour late, oh well!

This isn't a particularly special look, but my stamping is certainly improving with practise, and they're more fun to look at than plain red nails!
I learnt that my freehanding needs some serious practice!!!!! I will have to follow some nail art tutorials and have another go!

Happy stamping
